Well it's been a while...

Hello again, world.
So I haven't updated in a while because I've been busy with school and life and stuff. Senior thesis is starting at Academic Magnet and that means a bunch of stress and work. Also, In the Mix seems to have broken up. We lost our singer, Trent, because our drummer's mom didn't like him. Does that sound lame to you? It did to me. So I haven't seen them in a while. I haven't been playing much music lately because of school and wrestling. This weekend we have the Lower State tournament, then wrestling will finally be over. I'll try to get a job and hopefully start playing more bass.
Also, I'm now obsessed with 99 Luftballons.

Why do I always end up playing in churches?

Hey people! It's been a while. So our Goose Creek band (currently known as In The Mix) played at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Saturday. Trent was a little late but we managed to pull of some decent songs later in the performance. The earlier part was kind of bad. We were unprepared, and playing covers that I don't think any of us cared that much about. Once we got warmed up we sounded better though. We did end up playing covers of Man in the Box and Heart Shaped Box. Some guy that owns a venue showed up and wanted to hear us so we stayed longer and played some of the songs again for him. Here's us:

So I have a girlfriend now!! Her name is Lindsey and she goes to Academic Magnet as well and lives really close to me. Tonight we went to her church's band practice. She sings along with 3 or 4 other people. I felt kind of out of place. They had a lot of people (2 drummers, 1 bassist, 1 pianist/singer, 2 singers, 2 guitarists, and 1 guitarist/singer), so I just kind of jumped on a guitar and started playing chords along with the songs (with limited success). They have some really talented musicians. I grabbed my friend Nick's bass afterward and jammed with Dan the guitarist/singer guy for like 10 minutes. He really knows what he's doing. And right now I'm listening to some Wolfmother. And that's what I've been up to. I need to get back to writing songs. And writing a senior thesis...

Covers and Plans

So the last few days, the band has been learning to cover some songs which include Another One Bites the Dust, Eye of the Tiger, Come Together, Let it Be, Smoke on the Water, Heart Shaped Box, Nutshell, Would, and Wipeout. We'll be performing all of these except for the Nirvana and Alice in Chains at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Dorchester Rd. on the 16th. It's going to be like a reception thing after a church service. Ken (our beloved drummer) goes to that church and his mom is organizing the program, so she got us in. (If you're reading this, thanks Mrs. Luengo!) A few of the covers still sound a bit rough, but we're working to improve them. I'm doing backup vocals on Let it Be and maybe Come Together. Both of those sound pretty good, but the others need work. We've been postponing our work on original material because we can only do covers at this church thing. We also had a talent scout who owns a venue randomly show up at our last practice. He offered us a gig at his place, which should be pretty cool, although I'm not sure I like his intentions. Oh well. As long as we get to play for people. We also spent a long time trying to think of a band name. So far our top picks are "Vision" and "Epic Epilepsy". I would have preferred "Mourning Would".
School tomorrow. blehg. Today, I'm going to stay home and finish up AP U.S. History work. I'm also going to write up my thesis topic. For my thesis, I want to take a bass guitar and modify it by adding on a neck with raised frets and sympathetic strings like the Indian sitar. It needs some planning still, but I think it can be done. And hopefully it will sound good enough at the end that I'll actually want to keep playing it. So I've written too much here because I haven't posted in a while. So I'm gonna restring my acoustic guitar now. I broke a string a while ago so I figure I might as well restring the whole thing since I have a whole other set of strings. Stay cool, world.
